Sleeve face

This is a nice little trend going on, where people obscure their face, or whatever really, by putting a vinyl record cover over it. When it first started it did look really cool, and still does, but is everywhere now. But this is the whole point of my project, the fact that everyone is doing it. People get away from their computer and get tactile with their record collection and camera.
I don't feel this idea unifies people or is as physical as much as other things like the craftzine or musical parades, but it is nice and cool to see how many people do actually do it and to see all the many pictures.
Despite saying that everyone does it, i don't think i've actually seen two that look similar. There most likely is two of the same vinyl cover, but i like how everyone has their own way of doing it.

Arcade Fire

Arcade fire and their interactive videos. Less outside than OK GO but really great ideas, and possibly one of the first bands to involve their fans, and anybody in their videos like this. After watching it several times you notice how it changes too.
It's really interesting. It's not quite laying out what i'm trying to say from this project, but it definitely does show the amount that people are getting more creative, especially bands and how they are evolving to get their fans even more involved.

Craft Zine website

The main direction I want to be going with this project is to show that interactivity that people are having because of the internet and how active it can make people. Sort of showing the positive, non lazy side to the internet.
craft zine is a perfect example. A website full of many things, from craft, food, art projects and how to videos. I feel it really gets people, who want to be involved, involved.
At halloween they set up a competition for people to win a load of crafty things by making a costume or by making food, and then submitting photographs of that to the craft zine flickr website.
I see this as a good way of setting people's creativity on fire and to get involved and away from a computer.

Oasis new approach to advertising album

"Oasis have announced that they will debut a handful of tracks from their forthcoming album by having street musicians perform them tomorrow (September 12) on the streets of New York.

The band, whose highly-anticipated album 'Dig Out Your Soul' is due out in the US on October 7, will not be performing the tracks themselves.

Instead, they will meet with several buskers for a private rehearsal tomorrow morning, after which the street musicians will take to the different parts of the city to perform Oasis' new tracks 'The Turning', 'Bag It Up', '(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady' and new single 'The Shock Of The Lightning'."
"Oasis is also encouraging fans to film the street musicians themselves, and post the resulting content on a YouTube channel dedicated to the album launch."

Massive water fight conducted via facebook

An attempt at a massive water fight a few years ago, all organised on facebook. Again, it doesn't look creative but i think pictures produced from this day are pretty cool and the idea is nice and gets people involved.

Press pause play - creatives talking about the future of creativity

http://www.presspauseplay.com/

"The creative landscape is changing. Some talk about a revolution, others about a natural evolution. These changes affect everything from creation to distribution, from artist to consumer.
A new generation of global creators and artists are emerging, equipped with other points of reference and other tools. The teachers arenʼt certified schools anymore - itʼs web sites, discussion forums and a "learn by doing" - mentality. We see the children of a digital age, unspoiled or uneducated depending on who you ask. Collaboration over hierarchy, digital over analog - a change in the way we produce, distribute and consume creative works.

PressPausePlay is the first film to capture this new ecosystem. We meet the creatives at the frontier of production, the technical enablers of collaboration and distribution, the artists, the pop stars, the film makers, the business men, the visionaries and the ones left behind. Itʼs a story from the smallest molecule to the largest corporation. Itʼs a snapshot of today, but at the same time predictions of a near future."

Sour - music band collaborating with their fans to create art

Japanese band Sour collaborated with fans to produce the music video for their hit, “Hibi no Neiro” (Daily Melodies) from their first mini album ‘Water Flavor EP’. The cast were selected from the Sour’s international fan base, each person and scene filmed via webcam.

OK GO Free gigs, advertised through the internet

Another post from OK GO's website. I like how active they are and how creative they are.
"Music is getting harder to define again. It's becoming more of an experience and less of an object.

OK GO Parade

And here was the product of the parade.

OK GO getting people involved

OK GO are a very good band to look at for this project. From what i can see, they often use the internet to get their fans more involved.
I really like the idea of homemade music videos, and this is quite a big band who can make big big videos, but instead they make quite basic ones.
But more to the point, they basically got their fans together, or whoever wanted to come along to join them in a massive parade across an 8 mile span across somewhere in LA.
Even though it's not the typical way of making art, i think it still looks pretty good, and gets people together and makes people happy, and it does get people out of the house and away from technology, sort of.

Beginning ideas

This is a blog made for the research to my comm tech project.
I am looking at the creative collaborations that are made via the internet, and looking at how the internet can have a big effect and make a difference if we were to use it in the right way. To also highlight some of the positives happening amongst the wide web and to go against the voices who say that internet is making us lazy and scared of the real world. I believe there are many ways that people are using the internet to get people outside and doing things, and all for the cause of creativity.

My initial ideas and interests are towards music and bands, as so many bands are now realising they are to sell more of themselves in order to grab their fans and, i guess, to gain more fame, success and money.
To do this a lot of bands are turning to their music videos, another realease of creativity, and a wise way to capture their fans as they too can get involved. This, to me, is the best way to get fans, to allow them to be involved in a bands creativity and to allow an equal-ness between fan and band.
It sounds like a money scheming idea and maybe bands craving limelight and trying to get designers and creative artists out of a job, but i like how bands are becoming more diverse and how they are opening themselves up to their fans, and using art as a medium to talk to their fans. Using the internet, obviously, to make fans aware of any creative stuff going on, to then produce some original, fun stuff that i find very inspiring and something that definitely gets people away from their computers.
